Niets schaapachtigs aan boekbinden in IJsland

October 10, 2019 – A beautiful handmade journal using the buttonhole-stitch technique.

This post is about the magic of a postcard, bookbinding and paper love! In September I sent a postcard from Iceland to Chicago. It was a thank you note for the fun I had following Bari Zaki’s online bookbinding class: creating a buttonhole stitch book – a non-adhesive style binding. The book is filled with gorgeous thick watercolour paper.
Bari who has a bookbinding studio in Chicago, wrote a lovely blog about the card that arrived on her doorstep, what happened next and all the booklove we share! You can read the full story at barizaki.com/blog
The beautiful heart postcard was painted by Icelandic artist Patra Tawatpol who has a gallery in Reykjavik.

It was wonderful to follow Bari’s online class and make the book in Reykjavík
in the evenings, after a long day standing on my feet as I was attending an international conference.
Back in my hotel room, I watched the instruction video’s and it was like sitting next to her in class, sharing bookbinding jokes and even saving all the paper scraps as paper lovers do. So I decided to send Bari a postcard to let her know how much I enjoyed it.
Love how you can meet kindred spirits and so lovely to chat with Bari a number of times over the mail. Hoping to meet her in person one day. Xx
